The City of Madison has a long standing vision of true open data. The City believes that data should be free of charge and restrictions to the public for use when possible. This presentation will cover the brief history of our efforts to make data public and our recent switch from hosting our data via Socrata to using ESRI Open Data Portal. The presentation will go into detail on how the web site was set up, how data was moved from Socrata to ESRI, and what some of the back end technical issues were setting up the portal. We will also discuss our process in getting different City agencies involved; as well as our pilot project to the public using a story map to promote the City Capital Improvement Plan.
