This workshop will explore the fundamentals of geographic information systems (GIS) performed in the free, open-source, desktop GIS, QGIS (QGISv2.18.13 ‘Las Palmas’). Fundamentals include importing XY (and sometimes Z) data points from sheets, GPS to GIS, heads-up digitizing and feature encoding, fundamental geoprocessing tools, and creating map layouts. Firms interested in exploring this free, open-source desktop GIS solution should attend. Prior knowledge of working with GIS/GPS is preferred. Examples of projects and user applications will be discussed. Users are expected to attend the workshop with the QGIS software pre‐installed on a personal computing device; download is available at: http://www.qgis.org/. Data used for the workshop will be distributed via Google Drive or MS OneDrive; registrants can expect an email within one week of the event with instructions for data download.
